Lead Institutions
The NASA Astrobiology Institute (NAI) was founded in 1997 with 11 research institutions. It represents a partnership between NASA, universities, and research organizations to promote, conduct, and lead integrated multidisciplinary research, to train young scientists, and to provide public access to the adventure of studying the living universe. The following is the current listing of NAI lead institutions:


International Partnerships
The NASA Astrobiology Institute initiated a partnership program with international astrobiology organizations to provide collaborative opportunities for its researchers within the global science community. Foreign astrobiology organizations can become either Associate or Affiliate Members of the NAI. Associate Membership entails a formal agreement between NASA and the foreign government, whereas Affiliate Members have no formal agreements.
