The Microphone

In contrast to the guitar, which used a large number of PICTs as terrains, the microphone was created with primitives. Here is an enlargement of the upper part of the microphone and its wire-frame. Note the use of spheres and cylinders.

The top and bottom of the microphone comprise two nested spheres, the outer of which has a PICT used as an opacity map.

The texture was applied parametrically with a frequency of 30.

The same technique was used for the holey cylinder, but it was given a lower frequency. As the dark areas of the opacity map are transparent, a second sphere, with no texture, was placed just inside the outer sphere. The inner sphere, and all other parts were given one of the following surface properties.
